Today is Fairy Purple's Birthday - her third birthday to be exact. Fairy Purple is my youngest granddaughter and such a delight! She has such a mischevious sparkle in her eye that all who meet her fall intantly in love with her . . . she would make a great Disney princess!
In honour of this momentous day, I created a wonderful princess dress for her . . . well, I bought the dress and then embellished it with some of my special 'nanna' bits.
I applied the initial of her first name and then sewed little sparkly pink, white and purple flowers around it. I added a couple of big bits of bling at the front of the skirt and around the arm bands and viola! a unique and magnificent Fairy Purple princess birthday dress. Of course I added the obligatory tiara with pink fluffy bits and more bling . . . perfect!
Last year I made Fairy Pink (my eldest granddaughter) her first special nanna princess dress and, amongst the hundreds of princess dresses that she now owns (well, it seems like that many to me) the dress that I made up for her is her favourite. You guessed it - her initial and then little sparkly pink, white and purple flowers around it. The added bling was slightly different but the effect was the same - magnificent and unique!
Anyway, back to Fairy Purple and her third birthday . . .
I also got her the coolest pop up cubby house - it is brightly coloured, with two rooms and is very spacious indeed. Pretty much exactly what a birthday princess needs when there are no castles to be had in the neighbourhood.
It is funny how life puts things in your way - even when you don't know you are looking for them. I had been wondering what to get the Purple One for her special day (and keeping in mind that I just splurged on both Pink and Purple for Christmas) and just couldn't think of anything.
Then, late one night when I could not sleep, I found myself sitting at my computer in the dark, surfing the net and trying to find my way to the land of Nod. Instead I found the cubbyhouse on a deal site and dragged my credit card out and bought it there and then. Gotta love the internet! Shopping at 11:30pm at night and finding just the right thing for my darling Fairy Purple.
I went and visited her with my significant other and two of my fairy stepchildren (don't they sound magical?) and she loved her presents and happily paraded around in her magnificent princess dress and held court with her sister and her cousin in her cubby house castle. I was one happy nanna for sure . . . I love getting their gifts just right!
Although today was a day of joy and happiness with it being Fairy Purple's birthday, yesterday was the anniversary of my own mum's passing and so the past few days have been a bit up and down for me. The years have passed too quickly and I miss my mum very much but I know she is always with me . . .
While sewing on the sparkly pink, white and purple flowers onto the dress of my darling Fairy Purple, I was telling my Prince Charming about my own mum and how we used to pay her out for always sewing the same type of applique daisies onto my own two daughters clothes . . .
OMG one of those moments when you realise you are doing just what your own mother did! Now that is very cool and made me feel connected to her. I wish she could have met her great granddaughters, Fairy Pink and Fairy Purple, they would have loved each other very much.
